My major contributions included designing the interfaces for the Sponsors page and Challenges & Prizes page.
Duration
December 2020 - April 2021
Introduction
Before I joined Asterisk, I was an event organizer for Hacklahoma, my alma mater’s annual hackathon. I had the pleasure of working with a few of Asterisk’s team members through Hacklahoma, and it was inspiring to see a group of individuals who were genuinely interested in helping the hackathon scene grow beyond the collegiate level. Luckily, I had an opportunity to join the Asterisk team as a visual designer and got to learn more about organizing hackathons and other events.
Problem
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S., Asterisk had to quickly adapt to hosting our hackathons virtually.
As we grew more accustomed to producing these events, we noticed that there were some common processes that were slowing us down, such as creating the “live site” website for each hackathon from scratch. These live sites acted as the central informational page for the event, where you could view the schedule, real-time announcements, sponsor information, countdown, and more.
Across hackathons, much of the main information stayed the same. To optimize this workflow, we went about creating a live site builder tool that didn’t require the use of writing code, along with templates that would make it easier for our team and clients to set up a live site.
Solution
Quickly build a live site with preset templates
Focus more on the content of the live site rather than building out each section and page from scratch.
Customize and edit content with no-code solutions
Easily update the content of the live site before the event starts or in real-time.
